Masked Monster

Description

Game for the Global Game Jam 2026, Theme "Mask".

Central USA, you find yourself aboard your classic American-sized off-road vehicle, in the middle of the vast countryside with only your photographic equipment for company… The sky is getting darker and the thunderstorms are expanding, it's your moment, Storm chaser! 

Your task is to intercept the rain wrapped tornado, often almost invisible, and take breathtaking photos (and survive)! Your shots will be scored based on their quality Try to get the highest score without getting hit by the "monster"!

Warning: The best photos will be the riskiest to take! Good hunting!!

Gameplay

Objective:

1. Intercept the tornado via radar.
2. Stop to take at least 3 photos.
3. (Don't get run over by the monster.)
4. Escape the area via the roads leading off the map.

Caution: Impacts and debris damage your vehicle!

Your 3 best photos will be automatically selected and assigned a score based on three modifiers (a x b x c):

a. Integrity (0-25 points)
b. Centering (x1-x4)
c. Proximity (x1-x10)

Your final score will be the average of the three best photos. The maximum possible score is 3000 (1000 points per photo).

Concept

From the theme of "mask," the idea arose from interpreting this concept in a lateral way and creating something relatively unique. Masked by the rain, real monsters hide: tornadoes capable of wreaking havoc while remaining almost invisible.

The game was prepared in just 48 hours for the Global Game Jam, so we couldn't pay too much attention to detail and had to cut some mechanics: the "Search and Rescue" quest required you to rescue homes hit by tornadoes at the expense of losing points. This mode, for example, was cut due to time constraints! In any case, I hope you enjoy this little game! :)
